Winter Tires vs. All-Season Tires

There are several key differences between all-season and winter tires that make them better for driving in various conditions. At Lexus Monterey Peninsula, we can help you choose the appropriate tires for your vehicle and get them changed out as the seasons and weather conditions change.

All-season tires, which come on most cars and trucks when they leave the factory, are made of a hard rubber compound that is designed to provide a smooth ride and last for a long time. Winter tires are made of a softer rubber that will stay more pliable when it starts to get cold outside. The deeper tread pattern that is created with more biting edges is also more effective at shedding snow and ice in order to improve traction in cold and wet conditions.

Winter tires can wear out quickly if driven on hot pavement and should be switched out in the spring.
