MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — A local volunteer won a brand new car on his wedding anniversary after his local organization volunteered at a “Day of Giving” event and he entered his name in a raffle drawing.
Michael Briley won a 2024 Lexus RX500 Turbo Hybrid after he and his team at CliftonLarsenAllen LLP volunteered at the Twin Creeks Golf Course in Salinas For First Tee Monterey County’s 20th anniversary.
Organizers said the car was donated by Lexus Monterey Peninsula and long-time supporter of First Tee – Monterey County, Jeffrey Cappo. It was put on display all throughout the peninsula and south Monterey County leading up to the event, but Briley saw the car for the first time while at the golf course on Saturday, Sept. 7.
He said he was surprised when he found out he won and it came at the perfect time.
My wife and I were out celebrating our anniversary when I missed a call from an unknown number. Later, we started receiving text messages from co-workers, family, and friends who had seen the raffle on Instagram Live – telling us we’d won the car! It was the perfect surprise for our anniversary.
The CEO of First Tee — Monterey County also expressed excitement for the winner and thanked them for supporting their goals.
We are absolutely thrilled to award the car to Michael, a member of one of our partner organizations that helps support our mission. Over the past 20 years, we’ve impacted the lives of more than 160,000 local youth through our golf and life skills curriculum. It’s donors and volunteers like Mr. Cappo, Lexus Monterey Peninsula, and the LCA that allow us to continue creating brighter futures.
Organizers said over 350 sponsors, donors and friends gathered to celebrate the 20th anniversary of First Tee — Monterey County last weekend.
